Good winter tires give the car adequate traction, guaranteeing safe and proper handling during harsh winter conditions. There are three types of winter tires. They include:

Studded Tires

These tires contain studs installed to their tread area to supplement traction in select winter conditions. The studs are characterized by their large diameter cylindrical end rooting down into the tire tread designed to penetrate frozen or snow-covered roadways for extra grip.

Studless Tires

They do not contain studs at their treads as their exceptional performance during harsh winter conditions relies on various features. These features are aggressive tread pattern designs, irregular block placement, high-density sipping, additional sharper block edges, and a winter rubber compound that remains soft even in low temperatures, thus providing good traction to prevent skidding.

Studdable Tires

These tires make use of the distinct features in the studded and studless tires. They are manufactured with optimized treads with a unique rubber compound that stays soft during low winter temperatures and small holes in the tread to allow for stud installation to give additional traction.
