Range Rover has come a long way, since the original eponymous 1969 prototypes and their 1970 release as the 26 Land Rover Range Rover models that came to define the luxury SUV and its segment. But since Land Rover had to keep its secrets in advance of the time's big show, it used the Latin-derived name "velare," meaning to veil or cover, to refer to them publicly. This name became Velar, and the moniker sank into the subconscious of Land Rover's development experts.

So what will this all mean for Evoque, with its 2.0L I4 engine showcasing hard-charging 4x4 capability operable with smoothness via an available 9-speed auto transmission? Or for Sport, 3.0L and 5.0L V6 and V8 powerhouse engines churning out the horsepower to take us cross tough terrain? The answer, like all good truths, lies somewhere in the middle. But this shan't be a bad thing. After all, you can still come see us in advance of the big reveal here at Land Rover Roaring Fork for a test drive in one of these road warriors. Two Rivers Plaza Rd. showroom is home to more than a few. So stop by today! And stay tuned for Velar.
