Into the controversial diesel emissions controversy plunges fearless British automaker Land Rover, with its all-new 2016 Range Rover Td6. New York Times auto critic Tom Voelk calls Land Rover's first turbodiesel here in the U.S. a "supremely upscale vehicle." Click "play" in the video clip below to watch his full report.
Voelk reports that Land Rover's engine technology delivers appealing performance, including serious engine power (258 horsepower and a remarkable 440 pound-feet of torque) off the line and much-improved fuel economy. Land Rover addresses the diesel emission issue by using a fluid called urea, says Voelk, which mists the exhaust to knock down emissions, turning harmful nitrogen oxide into plain old nitrogen. The urea tank gets filled every 10,000 miles or so.
